Liquid Containment
American Iron pioneered the use of containment facilities in Minnesota and the Dakotas, with an understanding that good environmental practice is also good business sense. Superfund site cleanup and other environmental actions can have a far-reaching and costly impact on scrap-generating businesses.
Protection from the law can be gained by documenting that the facility to which you are sending your liquid-bearing materials is in full compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental protection laws. As can be expected from a market leader, American Irons facilities are in full and demonstrable compliance.
American Irons strict adherence to environmental regulations protects its customers. Proper handling of coolant and cutting fluid-containing materials is one way we minimize downstream liability. Heres how American Irons Liquid Containment Facility operates:

Machined turnings, chips, and other oil-containing materials are placed onto impervious holding pads and allowed to gravity drain into storage tanks. The collected liquids are then processed on site to separate the oil and water.
After separation, the water is fed to a gas fueled evaporator for conversion into harmless water vapor. The oils are burned in a furnace which provides heat for our warehouse. In this way, liquids are disposed of in a legal, environmentally acceptable manner.
And as additional protection, American Iron maintains an array of test wells to monitor ground water within our facility. We are committed to providing the highest quality service for our customers. Our Liquid Containment Facility is but one example of that commitment. For more information on this, or other environmental services, call American Iron, or e-mail: environment@scrappy.com.
