CATEGORIES & CRITERIA FOR 2005 METAL SCULPTURE COMPETITION
American Iron, Minneapolis, MN, the region's leading metal recycling company, invites metro area artists to take part in their fifth annual "Art of Recycling" metal sculpture competition as part of the company's sponsorship of the Minneapolis Aquatennial.
Awards will be given in two categories: freestanding large (floor) sculpture and small (tabletop, supported wall hanging, mobile, collage) artwork. First place winners in each category will receive a $300 cash award; second place winners will receive a $200 cash award; third place winners will receive a $100 cash award.
Entrants must submit an application form prior to materials retrieval and retrieval reservations are required. A $50 entry fee must accompany all applications. Entry is limited and application fee will be returned if space is unavailable.
All metal material used in the entries must come from American Iron. Prior registration is required for retrieval!
Retrieval date is Saturday, June 4, 2005 between 8:30 am and 11:30 am at American Iron's main facility located at 2800 Pacific Street North, Minneapolis.
To be considered for judging, sculptures must be delivered to American Iron the week of July 11-15, 2005, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. unless other arrangements are made.
All entered sculptures will be displayed to the public at the American Iron Minneapolis Aquatennial open-air gallery on the Nicollet Mall in front of the IDS court July 19 and 20, 2005.
Competition rules are as follows:- Large sculpture category (floor). Sculpture shall be no larger than 6' W x 6' L x 10' H and no heavier than 500 lbs.
- Small sculpture category (tabletop & wall supported). Sculpture shall be no larger than 3' W x 3' L x 3' H and no heavier than 150 lbs.
- Reservations will be limited to first 15 applicants in each category.
- Entrants are responsible for dropping off sculptures at American Iron, 2800 Pacific Street North, Minneapolis, the week of July 11-15, 2005, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. unless other arrangements are made.
- First, second and third place winners in both categories will be announced July 18, 2005.
- Artists will be responsible for transporting their entries from American Iron to the Nicollet Mall display area between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on July 19. Artists will be responsible for pickup at display area July 20 between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Any items remaining at American Iron AFTER July 31st will become the property of American Iron.
- American Iron reserves the right to purchase all entries and to display any and all entries up to one year.
